2012 SCS CougarBots BEST Award 2nd Place finish
The 2012 Starkville Christian School CougarBots pose with their 2nd Place BEST award, and their mascot.
Friday night and Saturday were exciting for both veteran and rookie team members; their were many interviews and presentations going on simultaneously, keeping everyone busy. Armstrong Middle School's gymnasium and cafeteria were great places to hold the event, and we thank them for the use of their facilities. As you can see from the photo, the CougarBots took home the 2nd place BEST award, and are advancing to the Regional competition at Auburn University on November 30-December 1st. God is good, and we are thankful He protected all who traveled and competed!

Can't wait to present tonight...Team 65 CougarBots are ready to go! Wishing all of the other BEST teams in the competition safe travels and a great competition.

See you all tonight at Armstrong Middle School!

The Starkville Christian School CougarBots Robotics Team would like to extend the use of our shop and/or power tools to any out-of-town teams that encounter emergencies after you arrive Friday evening (that never happens to me, right?). If you forget/leave/need a tool, we've probably got it.

You can call Dale Jordan at 662-312-5629 if you need us.

MS BEST 2012 Mall Day Festivities - The SCS CougarBots test the playing field.
MS BEST 2012 Mall Day Festivities
Today was "Mall Day". For those of you unfamiliar with BEST Robotics, Mall Day is the day that the teams can bring their finished (or nearly finished in some cases) robots and test them out on the official playing field.

Several members of the team met at Raspet Flight Lab at 9:30, and brought our robot along to see how we would fare on the official field. Everything was in compliance with the measurements we found in the rule book, and everything is moving along very well with the assembly of our robot, so we look forward to seeing all of you on competition day!

Robotics isn't all about work, work, work! SCS CougarBots have fun (or sometimes too much fun)! Here are some of the things the Cougarbots like to do after the meetings.

Some guys enjoy riding the Ripstick, while some prefer watching from a distance and laughing when the others fall off. Kennedy is known for Pinterest, "All day, everyday." During the evenings, there is the occasional basketball dunking contest. And let's not forget the never ending conversations (and little girl screams) about Slendermen between Ade and Jason. Mrs. Jordan and Lily like to visit Nan and make hand shadows using the projector.

It was interesting to see the robots they built and how well they did. Their teams did really good, considering it was their first year and since the robot was climbing up a pole, instead of just being on the ground. Their booths were informative and creative. This helped us to see what robot design worked and what didn't. I enjoyed being able to watch the teams participate.

I liked the fact that when we visited the Tuscaloosa hub, I remembered all the memories of last year, good and bad. Even though the tiny gym was half full, it was packed with high energy and plenty of spirit. I'm glad I could visit because our team was able to encourage the other teams, and congratulate them on a job well done. I have high hopes for a lot of them to return to the robotics program again next year.

It was a fun and interesting to see all the teams compete in a big and loud court. It was very entertaining watching the robots climb. It made me think of all the ways we could get our robot up to the top. If I had a chance, I world certainly go again. My favorite part of the trip would have to be the main competition of the robots.
